St.Brigid’s Cross

🟩 St.Brigid’s Cross

Crosses are made each year to celebrate St.Brigid’s Day.The St.Brigid’s Cross is one of Ireland’s most enduring household traditions.

Traditionally, the cross was woven from fresh rushes. It was made to mark the turning of the year.

The cross was placed above the door, near the hearth, or in a byre.

It offered protection and blessings to the household and the stock on the farm.
