The Senior Room had great fun today. We played a game of #mysteryskype with another school. They had to ask us Yes/No questions and they guessed where we were in the world. They asked us what continent we were in, whether we were on the East/West of Europe. They asked were we in England first and then guessed Ireland.
We asked them the continent they were located on. We found out that they were on the North American continent and they were in the Atlantic. They were living on an island in the Caribbean. In the end, we guessed Puerto Rico!
We learned that their native language is Spanish and they are learning English. They were in a medium sized school (for their country) but that was still 450 pupils!! The biggest schools in Puerto Rico have 1000+ pupils! They were amazed to hear that we had only 20 in the whole school!
They told us all about their weather. It is always sunny and warm, except for when there are hurricanes! The wind can go up to 150 miles for hour. They are rare. The children has never experienced a hurricane but their teacher had. She told us that they had to pack away everything in the garden, lock up the house, get first aid kits ready, organise provisions (food, water etc.). They had to stay in the house for over 24 hours until it was safe to go out again.
It was 9am in Puerto Rico and 1pm here when we were talking to them.
It was a great experience! It was really cool to talk to another school in another country. We would love to do it again sometime!

Pancake /Shrove Tuesday
This morning we made pancakes. We used the following ingredients. Flour, eggs and milk. We made a batter.
Miss Moynihan helped us to cook the batter in a hot oiled pan.
When the batter was heated, the pancakes turned solid! We flipped them in the pan. To our disappointment none stuck to the ceiling! We sprinkled sugar on them.
We ate them and they were delicious. Afterwards we wrote out the recipe for pancakes. We all enjoyed Pancake Tuesday.

Sliabh Luachra "Literary Genius Unleashed"
Pupils of Shrone NS were asked to enter their poems, writing or songs into the Sliabh Luachra "Literary Genius Unleashed" event. It was held on Friday night (6th February 2015) in Barraduff. Michelle and James were able to attend, and read out their own poem to the audience. James also read his brother Michael's poem. Everybody received a certificate for their poem writing efforts.

I Like Sliabh Luachra, Big or Small
Sliabh Luachra’s big,
Sliabh Luachra’s small,
Sliabh Luachra’s big,
Where I have a ball.
Sliabh Luachra’s stories
Can be frightening,
But can also be
Very exciting.
It’s warm and loving
When the birds are humming,
Mom and Dad
Listen to me strumming.
I like this place,
Because Sliabh Luachra’s
My home base.

Sliabh Luachra
We are here in Sliabh Luachra,
Where it is all fun and games,
If you don't believe me,
Just ask my brother James.
We all love dancing here,
We don't have any fear,
Just come out on the dance floor,
So we can dance a little more.
We love the storytellin',
Not the best at our spellin',
But when you get your chance,
You might as well have a dance.
Our favourite is the music,
By Mr. And Mrs. Cusack,
They sing well, and they play swell,
It's not hard to tell.
So now you know,
Why me and my Da,
Really love Sliabh Luachra.

The Heart of Sliabh Luachra
In the heart of Sliabh Luachra,
We're out on our own,
Everyone's happy, not a single moan,
There's a café, a shop, a school and a vet
We've lots of stuff here and that's a bet.
We got storytelling, dancing and singing go leor,
And the best football team, also known as Rathmore,
Your time in Sliabh Luachra won't be a bore
Singing, dancing and music in store,
So come to Sliabh Luachra, we've got lots, lots more.

Sliabh Luachra
Sliabh Luachra is nice,
Like sugar and spice,
There's singing and dancing and more,
In around the village of Rathmore.
Set dancing in the hall is very fun,
But some people like to dance in the sun,
Telling stories and lots of yarns,
And even dancing in the barns.
If it's hill walking you want,
For a friend and you,
Then it's up to the top
Of the Paps of Danú.

Sliabh Luachra
In the heart of Sliabh Luachra,
There is alot of drama,
With everyone where they are supposed to be,
Sometimes I need to see,
The City is a magical place,
It has fairies and leprechauns,
And beings of a fantastical race.
Here in Sliabh Luachra we have pace,
But with us here, there is no race.

Everyone Loves Sliabh Luachra
Get your dancing shoes on,
Are you ready?
You need to practise,
You’re a bit unsteady.
There is a lot competition,
Some are story telling,
They all hope to win,
If they don’t, there’ll be yelling.
During a set,
If you make a mistake,
You might be thrown,
Into a lake.
I love this place,
So does Ma and Da,
Everybody loves,
Sliabh Luachra.

Don’t Be Afraid
We live in Sliabh Luachra,
It’s all music here,
For those who like to listen,
And for those who like to hear.
There is storytelling, dancing
And drinking too,
So come on down and join our fun,
And join in on cue.
We love a bit of drama
And some singing as well,
So for all who love their laughing
And set dancing, come on down and tell.
So I’ll tell you once, I’ll tell you twice,
So come on down, I’ll tell you thrice,
Now you know what fun we have,
So come on down with your other
HALF!!!

Heart Of Sliabh
Luachra
In the heart of Sliabh Luachra,
Where you can’t find opera,
But it’s known for its talent,
Its’ music, singing, and story
telling.
A place where everyone is glad,
Not one person sad,
Everyone jumping about,
Yes, it really does count.
It’s extremely busy in June,
They don’t stop until they see a
full moon,
Where no one has anything to
fear,
Not a single tear.
Everyone is having fun in ‘The
City’
Not a single pity,
Having the time of their life,
Every husband and his wife.

Precision Writing.
This morning First class were very busy. They wrote about decorating buns and then they decorated them
with Ms. Moynihan. We mixed nutella, icing sugar and butter to make special chocolate icing. We decorated them with treats. We can't wait to eat them at break time. Yum yum yum!

Welcome Spring.
The pupils in the Junior room welcomed Spring this week even though at times the weather was not very Spring like! Every morning Mrs.Murphy and the Junior pupils are searching the school grounds for signs of Spring. So far there is no frogspawn in our pond but our daffodils are very visible.
St. Brigid's Day
We celebrated St.Brigid's Day on February 1st. Mrs.Murphy taught us all about the life of St.Brigid whilst Miss Moynihan and Carina made St.Brigid's crosses with us.

Welcome Sr.Noreen.
This morning we welcomed Sr.Noreen Quilter to our school. She spoke with us about the Alive O programmes. We sang songs, told her stories from the programme and we prayed with her. She was delighted with us and she gave us the thumbs up! As a treat for being so good we got no homework! We thank Sr.Noreen for coming and we look forward to her returning in the near future.
Catholic Schools Week 2015
Last week we celebrated Catholic Schools Week. We enjoyed doing activities at home and at school. We said prayers, did acts of kindness, visited the church and the highlight of the week for most of us was Grandparent's Day. We thanked God for our grandparents, we prayed for them and we made cards for them. We remembered in a special way our grandparents that are not with us. It was a very special week for all of us.
Art work in the Junior Room.
We have been very busy in the Junior Room doing some artwork. Here are a few examples and we hope you enjoy them!

February Snow Day!
Shrone pupils were delighted yet again this morning with a covering of more snow in Rathmore!
We made another fear sneachta in the yard and we put a hata, scairf agus lámhainní air.
Afterwards, we were all so cold that Miss Drumm made us all a cupán tae with some bainne. The snow had melted by home time though!
