A visit from our two furry friends!

Yesterday the pupils in the Junior room were learning all about rabbits. 

Today Mrs.Murphy brought two rabbits to school....Cotton tail and Scut.  Our thanks to Paul for lending us his rabbits for the day. 

We all now know what rabbits like to eat,what treats they like, where they live and how to handle them properly. 

Final Day Of Maths Week!

Today the pupils in the junior room revised everything they had learnt during Maths Week. 

We revised time, 2D shapes, number and weight. 

We now know that maths are very important in our everyday living. 

The pupils in the senior room had a quiz based on what they had learnt during maths week. We all enjoyed maths week. 

Maths Week. Day 4.

Today the pupils in the junior room were learning all about weight. 

We learnt that items were weighed in either grams or kilogrammes. Items that were the same weight balanced the scales. 

Some items were light while others were heavy. We then made a chart. 

Tonight at home we will look at food packages to see what weight they are. 

Today the senior pupils concentrated on some problem solving. We tackled a variety of problems some were open-ended problems that there was no definite answer to. For example design a maze or create a way of measuring a live and dangerous crocodile. 

Maths week. Day 3.

Today the pupils in the Junior room had some fun with the ring board. 

We talked about the odd and even numbers on the board.

 We added numbers and we subtracted numbers. 

Junior and Senior infants played a game. They named and sorted out the 2D shapes.

Today the pupils in the senior room made chocolate muffins as part of Maths week. 

Cooking involves lots of measuring, estimating, adding, subtracting, multiplying, fractions, problem solving and most of all teamwork. 

We made 24 muffins and shared them out amoung students and teachers.

They were divine! Now we know how fun maths can be while baking! 

Maths Week 2015. Day 2.

Today the pupils in the Junior room were learning all about 2D shapes. We went outside and we found various 2D shapes in the school grounds. Firstly we looked for circles in our environment.

Then we looked for triangles. 

Rectangles were the most common shapes. 

Lastly we found squares.

 We now realise that we are surrounded by various shapes. 

The pupils in the Senior room took part in a maths trail as part of Maths week.

We identified various lines and angles in the school environment.  

We measured the area of our new concrete yard and the perimeter of our vegetable beds. 

We had a ring throwing and a bean bag throwing competition and we calculated our average scores. 

We also measured the perimeter of a lap of our school and found it was 80 metres. 

We calculated 12.5 laps of the school is equal to 1 km. We will use this information as part of our active schools initative.
