Football match. Shrone vs Hollymount

Delighted children, staff and parents made the most of a gap between the showers today as Shrone and Hollymount dusted the cobwebs off their jerseys and tested each other in a series of challenge matches on Rathmore GAA AstroTurf.  The games had everything we love to see at this age and has been sorely missed over the last two years. The stars of the future didn't disappoint there were flashes of brilliant and hints of untapped talent all over the pitch. Marc Cremin, Cathal Cronin and Thomas O Sullivan came of age today proving they are the senior players on this panel. Danielle Buckley showed a cool head in defence while Markus O Brien Westall proved a safe pair of hands on his first start as goalkeeper.  Siblings Eanna and Eabhla Murphy both got on the score board in the full forward line. Hollymount proved a serious test and while Shrone ran out winners 5 -2 to 1-4 there will be plenty to think about in the City before the East Kerry competition next week.
The second match featured a host of players making their debuts, it is wonderful to report that Shrone were able to field two completely different teams today ( even with absence of Roisin McAuliffe and Grace O Sullivan) such is the level of interest football at the moment.  Jessica Doherty started in goals and also impressed at midfield later in the game contributing scores from play. Laura Cronin dominated play and Isabella OBrien Westall was very impressive in her tackling and work rate and also kicked a sublime point. Beatrice Leonard made a valuable contribution in her first ever game of football and Aoibhinn Creedon was tireless in her tackling and ability to win to the ball. A dynamic duo of Shay Buckley and Daniel Lenihan dominated their positions and as a result Shrone were comfortable winners.
Big thank you to Rathmore GAA, Hollymount  and ref Christy Crowley and best of luck to Shrone in the East Kerry competition blitz next week.
