St.Patrick Day Rathmore 2025

St. Patrick’s Day Rathmore 2025.

Our thanks to everyone who  helped in any way towards our school participating in the parade.

The glorious sunshine, the multi coloured costumes, the music from the pipe bands  and the large crowd all added to the festive atmosphere in the village.

Cumann na mBunscol Cross Country running.

Congratulations to Daniel Lenihan and Isabelle O Sullivan who represented the school with distinction on Wednesday in cross country running. The weather was much kinder this year as nearly 200 children went to post for the girls 3rd and 4th class 1k race. Isabelle was literally pipped at the line last year over the same distance coming in 11th place just outside the medals, this year she set the record straight finishing in 5th, in a time just over 4 minutes.  Daniel Lenihan made the step up from 1 k to 2k in the 5th and 6th class boys, again there was a huge field of top quality runners, Daniel rounded the first corner in 35th position and held that place all the way to the finish line. The winning time in that race was a hugely impressive 7.30.

Belle, the musical

Today we visited SPSL to see their production  of Belle, the musical. The event was superbly organised and we were ushered to excellent seats in the front row.

The backdrops, set and costumes were vivid and extraordinarily realistic.  The performances and singing from cast, chorus and dancers were of almost professional standard. We were delighted to spot former pupils on stage. Eabhla Murphy was among the dancers,  Ava Twomey had a superb performance in a major role as Cogsworth while Tommy O Connor added hilarious comic relief and also an outstanding solo singing performance. Congratulations and bravo to all the cast, production team and teachers on an excellent show.

St Brigid’s Day

Today we made some St. Brigid's Crosses in school.
A St. Brigid’s Cross is thought to keep evil, fire and hunger from the homes in which it is displayed.
In some homes the cross from the previous year is taken down and burnt, and then replaced by the new one. St. Brigid's crosses were often kept under the rafters of the roof.
