Credit Union 2 teacher competition

The mixed team took part in the Credit Union 2 teacher competition in Barraduff on Friday, first game was against Glenflesk which was a game of a very high standard, Shrone seemed to be the stronger side having most of the possession but were profligate ( a very fancy word for wasteful!) in front of goals and Glenflesk were very much in this game at half time Shrone leading by 4 points. Glenflesk kicked two good points and had a goal chance tipped over the bar to leave a single point between the teams but then Shrone steadied up  and converted two goal chances to see out the game. 3- 1 to 3 points

Hollymount had a mostly girls team who were recently crowned Sci na scol champions in Cork, a serious test for any team with ambitions on winning a County final.  An all girls team lined out against Hollymount and a serious game of football broke out, sides level at half time. With 2 minutes to go Hollymount went a point up and the Shrone girls were tiring from a busy week of school tours, semi finals and the previous game. The emergency signal went out and the three boys from 5th class subbed on to manufacture a score and get Shrone the win to top the group. Shrone will now play in the semi final of this competition against Fybough NS. in two weeks time.

County Final here we come. ๐Ÿ”ต⚪️

A busy week for Shrone both on and off the field. On Thursday the Shrone girls team beat Curraheen NS in the county semi final at a scorching hot Spa GAA grounds. There were some tired heads following the school tour the previous day but once the ball was in the Shrone girls rose to the occasion and were able to establish a good lead with some well taken scores, the defence was firm and Shrone were able to see out the game on a scoreline 5-6 to 2 - 2.
Shrone will play Brosna NS in the county final Wednesday 28th at 5pm in Austin Stacks. All the best to the girls, this will be their 3rd final in a row they have been a consistently good team for many years and with a bit of luck can go all the way this time.

Girls Skills Competition and East Kerry Final.

Strong showing from Shrone Girls football team
Glenflesk was the venue for a double header,  girls football skills and the East Kerry final on Thursday 8th of May.
The skills competition provided a gentle warm up for Grace O Sullivan, Laura Cronin and Aoibhin Creedon, with Esma Leonard as a sub in case of emergencies.
The skills included a variety of kicking such as the punt kick,  penalty kick and hook kick from different positions, distances and using left and right feet.  Many schools from all over East Kerry attended and as the rounds progressed came the realisation that Shrone were performing very well. When the final results were tallied the Shrone had finished in second place just behind Gneeveguilla NS and Grace O Sullivan had come second in the individual competition.  Congratulations on a great performance. By this time the rest of the team arrived and prepared for the match against Glenflesk. Shrone aiming to complete an incredible Five in a Row in this competition.
From the start Shrone were very quick on the ball and supported each other well notching up some very good scores, Glenflesk rallied in the second half with 3 stunning goals but Shrone were always able to respond with some well taken points and some excellent goalkeeping from Clodagh Cahill.  Shrone held on to the lead and will hold on to the trophy for at least one more year.
Congratulations to Grace, Laura, Aoibhinn, Esme, Clodadgh,  Kaitlyn,  Isabelle and Emma. They will now play Cahir NS is the county quarter final.

Rally Of The Lakes

Rally Of The Lakes

Today we welcomed some rally drivers to Shrone NS.

Congratulations to Oliver… he was the winner of the T shirt that  Eddie and Tom donated.

Best of luck to all competitors this weekend.

May… the month of Mary

May Day marks the official beginning of the Summer season.

There are lots of traditions associated with May Day….doing the rounds at The City, setting up the May Altar, decorating the hawthorn bush, leaving petals at the front door in order to protect the dwelling and it’s people….let us remember all those people who carried out those traditions and who passed them on to our generation.

Let us take time during the month of May to continue the traditions and to allow our younger generation to have special memories of May.

May Day… Trip to Killarney

May Day… Trip to Killarney

On May Day the pupils and staff  of  Shrone N.S went on an educational trip to Killarney.
We met at Ross Castle. There we saw the ducks and the swans. Then we all enjoyed a scavenger hunt.

Then we did a tour of Ross Castle and we walked down to the Cooper Mines.

The highlight for many pupils was the trip on the jaunting cars from Ross Castle to Killarney House. Bobby, Bailey and Ruby provided much entertainment on the journey.

Next stop…. Killarney House.

After lunch we all enjoyed a bug hunt.

The final stop the day was Killarney playground. Everyone had great fun here
