Science is Fun!

Brian, a 5th year student from Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra, came to visit Shrone NS this week on work experience. We tried out loads of experiments as part of our Discover Primary Science & Maths projects.
Brian told us all about the human body, especially the heart and lungs and how important it is to keep fit and healthy. We are training for our Daffodil Day walk/run or roll on the 23rd March and he gave us some handy tips to keep in mind! (Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth!)

We made a lava lamp in a bottle which was great fun to watch.  Some worked better than others but our teacher said that's what science was about.... not every experiment works the first time around!

We also learned about volcanoes and what makes them erupt. We learned about acids and bases and we mixed vinegar with baking soda and food dye to make a volcano explode! It was great fun!

We are tracking the weather for Greenwaves.ie at the moment, so Brian showed us how to make a tornado in a bottle so we could see what happens with a real tornado. We're glad we didn't have one of those last week!

We really enjoyed science this week - a big thanks to Brian for coming into us.
