The Senior Room had their baking lesson with Marianne this lunch time. She taught them how to bake a Chocolate Fudge Cake, a Lemon Cake and a Chocolate Chip Cake.
The groups worked in threes to whisk eggs and sugar, stir in flour and add cocoa or chocolate chips or lemon rind. (We were very surprised to learn that the skin of the lemon gives the cake lemon flavour!) Whisking the eggs and sugar together made the mixture nice and fluffy Stirring in the flour made the mixture a bit less runny. The cocoa turned the whole mixture brown/ chocolate coloured. All of the cake mixtures were the same bit the flavours and things we added were what made the cakes chocolate fudge or chocolate chip or lemon.
When the liquidy mixtures were heated they changed. They rose up and made a lovely spongy cake!
We had spare mixture left over so we even got to bake some cupcakes to make sure none of it went to waste!
