Football season comes to a close.

Shrone played their final football matches of the year in a sun soaked Barraduff Community field on Thursday 31st of May. There was silverware at stake as Shrone, Fybough, Raheen and Glenflesk sought to claim the Credit Union District 2 teacher schools crown. Shrone faced a highly favoured Fybough side who had topped their group with ease in the previous round. Daniel Lenihan in goal, Danielle Buckley and Markus O Brien full back line, Thomas O Sullivan and Cathal Cronin midfield,  Eanna Murphy and Isabella O Brien forwards.  From throw in it was clear they would be no easy task, Fybough were skillful footballers who moved fast and tackled hard, Shrone struggled to get out of defence at time and any go towards the Fybough goal was quickly halted by clever defending. The pace of the game and heat were ferocious and Laura Cronin brought fresh legs to.the defence. Halftime Fybough 3- 7 Shrone 2 points. Shrone rallied at half time and with the aid of the breeze found their rhythm Cathal Cronin kicking a fine point from a free from 35 yards and soon Shrone were level with Fybough on points however they could not get the goals they needed and the thrilling comeback ran out of steam. Final score Fybough 3 -8 Shrone 0- 8. This saw Fybough advance to the final where the beat Ratheen in a highly entertaining final. Shrone in the meanwhile played Glenflesk in a 3rd and 4th play off, all members of the panel bar the injured Eabhla Murphy and absent Jessica Doherty played in this game,  Aoibhin Creedon in goal, Shay Buckley, Danielle Buckley Eanna Murphy, backs  Daniel Lenihan, Esme Leonard, Grace O Sullivan midfield, Beatrice Leonard, Roison McAuliffe, Isabella O Brien forwards. Shrone played brilliantly in the first half, standout moments were Daniel Lenihans dominance in midfield,  Shay Buckleys composed defending and Beatrice Leonards clever finish to the net which gave her a total of 1-1 for her rookie season,  half time Shrone leading by a goal,  In the second half Glenflesk rotated the bench and the big guns were introduced,  Shrone were soon six points down and the management turned to the old guard, Markus, Thomas and Cathal. These experienced boys were able to turn the tide and it fell to Thomas o Sullivan to save the day placing the ball low and hard into the corner of the Glenflesk net with seconds left to give Shrone a one point victory. Overall a good football season for Shrone who have been competitive in every game they played this year, congratulations to the girls who completed a three in a row in East Kerry, there is one final outing in the Shrone jersey for this year, hurling on Wednesday.
