New Beginnings was the theme of the Rathmore St. Patricks Day Parade and who better to lead Shrone National Schools float than the new Late Late host Patrick Kielty.
The children of Shrone NS played The Star Of The County Down on tin whistle and accordion accompanied by music teacher Henry Cronin. This was a doubly apt tune as Jack Rogan who played the role of Mr. Kielty has roots in Co. Down too. Jack/Patrick conducted some hilarious interviews with members of the public giving sweets to everyone in the audience as the parade made its way to the grand stand. On the grand stand Mr Kielty interviewed the new head of RTE Terence O Rourke (Aoibhinn Creedon) who advised him to cut back on the free giveaways. Kielty then intoduced the crowd to new Ireland soccer manager , John o Shea( Cathal Cronin) and new Rathmore football manager, David McCarthy ( Thomas O Sullivan). After discussing the merits of a high-ball versus a low-ball the best they could agree on was UP DOWN.
The stars were escorted from stage by security men Eanna Murphy and Shay Buckley while HYPE MAN DAN ( Daniel Lenihan) got the crowd cheering for Kaitlyn Cronins performance of a hop jig.
The crowd and visiting dignitaries very much enjoyed the performance as much as the children, staff and parents of Shrone enjoyed taking part. They were thrilled to be awarded the Frank Buckley Perpetual Cup for best overall float.
