INTO MINI 7S
Shrone boys and girls teams took part in the INTO mins sevens football on Wednesday 12th in Barraduff.
This round of competition was to see who would qualify for the knock out stages of the competition to be played in Killarney later in the year. Numbers were tight on the Shrone team, 5th class boys Daniel, Shay and Eanna forming the spine of the team with 4th class Jack Rogan between the sticks. Micheál Cronin from 2nd class had been very impressive in the full back line at training and started in that position and Daniel O Sullivan and Denis Lenihan formed the attack. Raheen were formidable opposition who carried the ball well and kicked some good scores despite the best efforts of the Shrone boys. Shrone registered a goal and a point but the Raheen defence did not offer up much more, Raheen winners.
The next game was against Glenflesk, another strong team, the Shrone boys gave a great account of themselves in a lively encounter, Daniel Lenihan bagging two goals and Daniel O Sullivan also hitting the net however it was Glenflesk who finished ahead by 4 points at the final whistle.
The Shrone girls fared better, there was only one game against Glenflesk to decide who would go forward, all or nothing. It was agreed that we would play 9 a side to give everyone a full game
Clodagh Cahill in Goals, Captain Grace Cronin Aoibhinn Creedon and Esme Leonard in the backs, Laura Cronin and Grace O Sullivan in midfield, Kaitlyn Cronin Emma Buckley and Isabelle O Sullivan in the forwards. This was a finely balanced match each side playing well but with Shrone edging ahead on the scoreboard at half time with the benefit of a strong wind. At the start of the second Shrone were rocked by a thunderous goal that nearly burst the net, however they managed to rally and as the saying goes " they played with the ball" working it into scoring positions, Grace O Sullivan registering the bulk of the scores while Laura and Aoibhinn managed to shut up shop at the back. The Shrone girls will play Knockaderry on the 2nd of April in the next round of the competition.
Well done to all, thank you to Mr Favier for organising and to Barraduff Community Field for use of the pitch. Best of luck to Raheen boys and Shrone girls in the next round.
