Shrone five a side girls travelled to Tralee more in hope than in expectation for the Cumann na mBunscol county final. It was a great achievement to reach the final for a second year in a row particularly as they are a young team without any girls in 6th class. The team lined out with Clodagh Cahill in Goal, Aoibhinn Creedon full back, Laura Cronin and Grace O Sullivan midfield and Isabelle O Sullivan in the full forward position. Kaitlin Cronin, Esme Leonard and Emma Buckley stood ready on the sideline. Shrone played with the wind in Austin Stacks Park and started brightly however the excellent Goal keeping from the Cloghane side prevented Shrone from taking what would have been a deserved lead at half time.
With the wind at their backs for the second half Cloghane stepped up a gear and there was little the Shrone girls could do to stop the onslaught, Cloghane deservedly won in the end and we congratulate them on a fine performance. However there were no tears or huge disappointment from the Shrone side, the girls recognised that they had done the best they could and will have it all to play for again next year. Well done and thanks to all involved with the team this year.
