Shrone pupils got a real taste of summer this week when it came time to harvest some strawberries from the school garden. The children had been involved from the very start of the process, digging compost and filling the window boxes in early spring, planting the strawberry plants and watering them regularly and finally the moment came to enjoy fruits of their labour.
We made Eton mess, the classic summertime treat from fresh strawberries, whipped cream, a little jam, crushed meringue and a sprig of garden mint to garnish. Everyone in the senior room found a job to do and served up 31 Eton mess desserts, one for everyone in school that day. Well done to everyone involved, we hope you enjoyed growing and eating your strawberries.
