Credit Union 2 teacher competition

Credit Union 2 teacher schools football.
The final competition of the year for the full squad of boys and girls took place on Tuesday the 8th at  Barraduff Community field. A panel of 15, from the senior room minus the injured Markus togged out to face Raheen and Meentogues NS at the group stage of the competition.  There was a real group.of death feel to these fixtures as all teams were of very high quality and the spectator were treated to intense and exciting games all day.
Raheen and Shrone played out an absolute thriller in the first round, Shrone once again started slow, and were 6 points down at half time having missed two goal chances in the first half. Cathal Cronin shook off a stomach bug that had been troubling him  and lead the team back to within a point of Ratheen, Shrone finished much the stronger and there was a feeling that this was a result that got away. Eanna Murphy and  Eabhla Murphy contributing handsomely to the scoreboard, Laura and Danielle tight in defense and Bella brought fresh legs to the equation when introduced at half time.  Cathal and Thomas did  what we have come to expect from these young players and took game by the scruff of the neck. Although the result was not what was hoped for the Shrone management were delighted at how the team performed and were relishing  crack at Meentogues in the next game.

Shrone started very well against Meentogues and made no mistakes in front of goal finishing to the net 3 timea in the first half. Daniel Lenihan pulled off the save of the day, the Meentogues supported already celebrating a certain goal before Lenihan leapt across the goal mouth to toe poke the ball away.  The subs bench was well used Grace, Roisin and Shay introduced to the fray in the second half as Meentogues seemed to be launching a comeback. The player of the match award would certainly have to go to Thomas O Sullivan who used his athletic ability to be simply everywhere, carrying the ball forward and taking scores while covering back and marking the Meentogues sharpshooter Abbie Dennehy.
Shrone won in the end by a goal and 3 points in a very entertaining game of football.

Shrone also played two challenge matches against Glenflesk and Holymount to give experience to the younger members of the squad, we are delighted to report that the future remains bright, Aoibhin Creedon tackled tenaciously, and Shay Buckley was impressive in midfield,  Daniel Lenihan played outfield in this mark giving Jessica a chance to sharpen her reflexes ahead of Fridays semi final, her kick outs landing neatly into the arms of Roisin McAuliffe who was always making herself available.  Esme and Beatrice enjoyed their outing and congratulations to Beatrice who kicked her first point, the first of many we hope.

The Shrone mixed team will now play against Fybough national school in the knockout stage of the competition on the first of June, while Raheen will face Glenflesk on the other side of the draw. Fybough will prove a stiff challenge having been very impressive in their group matches but let there be no doubt, Shrone as always, will give it their absolute best and hope that the ball will hop the right way for them.
